Fiberoptic linked power-by-light Communication Earplug
The FOS line of fiber optic linked, power-by-light
communications earplugs provides a communication earplug without electrical
wiring and connections. Power and the communication signal are provided by an
optical signal delivered through a fiber optic cable.
The fiber optic delivery is insensitive to EMI effects, does
not radiate signal information and can be run over very long distances without
electrical power for amplifiers or repeaters.
The fiber optic earplug is available for fiber optic
operation at either 850nm or 1550nm.
The earplug speaker is driven with a provided driver in a
class-d drive configuration using laser diodes of either 850nm or 1550nm to
match the earplug wavelength chosen.
The Fibersound Fiber Optic Microphone, Model FOM1, provides interference free communication in electrically noisy environments. The microphone uses a patented optical system that converts acoustic signals directly to a modulated light intensity signal. Since no electrical signals generated in the microphone or the fiber optic cables the fiber optic microphone provides secure and interference free communication in chemically or electrically hazardous conditions. Available with completely non-metallic construction to permit use in areas of high magnetic fields. Standard cable length 30 meters. The low light loss in the fiber allows cable lengths up to 1500 meters without the need for intermediate amplification
OCEP Optically Driven Earplugs
OCEP Optically Driven Communications Earplug Active earplugs provide a communication speaker inside a noise reducing earplug to deliver the sound directly to the ear canal. An active earplug used under double hearing protection provides high speech intelligibility in high noise environments.
The OCEP optical communications earplug by Micro Optics Technologies provides a power-by-light solution for communications earplugs without cumbersome wire connections.
Advantages of Power-by-light earplugs:
Ease of don and doff
No wire link as snag hazard
No wire link as EMI hazard
The ease of use of the OCEP earplug and clear communications provided promote user acceptance and use.
This means that personnel performance will improve for greater mission effectiveness while hearing protection compliance will improve--providing the long-term benefit of hearing conservation.
